The first rumoured designs for the Pixel 6 series are in, and they suggest that Google has made sweeping changes from last year's conservative Pixel 5. With a pronounced camera housing, minimal bezels and a square design, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro look nothing like any previous Pixel smartphones.

Jon Prosser claims to have seen an early working version of the Pixel 6 series. According to the leaker, he created the renders in collaboration with Ian Zelbo to protect his source.

However, he asserts that to have seen hands-on images of Google's next flagship smartphones. We should stress that Prosser was spectacularly wrong when it came to the Pixel 5 series, as the image below demonstrates.

In fairness to Prosser, Max Weinbach claims to have verified the renders with an independent source. Weinbach claims that the colours are incorrect, but the design reflects those that his source has seen. If the renders are correct, then they represent a complete redesign for the Pixel series and a return to two flagships for Google.

Undoubtedly, the biggest point of contention is the rear-facing camera housing that juts from the back panel. Prosser's renders show that Google has included three rear-facing cameras; quite why it needs such a large housing is anyone's guess.

Nonetheless, Google is expected to equip the Pixel 6 series with its 'Whitechapel' custom silicon, codenamed GS101. Apparently, Google has partnered with Samsung on 'Whitechapel', which is thought to be based on the Exynos 2100. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are believed to be arriving this autumn.
