Zion Williamson’s ‘suicide’ Instagram post sparks concern during offseason drama

Zion Williamson’s social media activity has fans concerned.

On Thursday, during what has been a tumultuous offseason for the 23-year-old Pelicans star, a snippet from The Notorious B.I.G. song “Suicidal Thoughts” appeared on Williamson’s Instagram Story.

The post featured a transcription of the lyrics, “I can’t believe suicide’s on my f mind, I wanna leave,” sparking online concern about Williamson’s well-being.

“Somebody check on him,” one user tweeted.

Another wrote, in part, “Hopefully he’s good.”

Although the post was still featured on Williamson’s Instagram page as of Friday, the former Duke phenom previously said Biggie’s “Ready to Die” album, which features “Suicidal Thoughts,” has been a staple in his music rotation because it helps him cope with stress.

It has been a turbulent offseason for Williamson, who has been at the center of trade rumors and headlines focusing on his personal life.

Williamson, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, played in just 29 games for the Pelicans during the 2022-23 season while dealing with injuries.

Williamson has also spoken candidly about struggling with his weight.

“That s- -t hard, it’s hard, man. Like, you’re 20, 22, got a lot of money — it feels like all the money in the world — man, it is hard,” he said on Gilbert Arenas’ “Gil’s Arena” podcast. “But I’m at that point now, where, because of certain things, I’m putting back wisdom around me … putting people around me with wisdom, put me on game to certain things and just go from there.”

Former adult film star Moriah Mills claimed in June that she had recent sexual relations with Williamson.

Mills’ allegations came shortly after the NBA star’s apparent girlfriend announced she is expecting a baby with Williamson.

Williamson, who last played in January, signed a five-year rookie max extension with the Pelicans in July 2022 worth up to $213 million.
